Calc mid-term, Course Selection... /// 10.06.03 / 9:47 pm
Boy, I sure am tired. I was nearly falling asleep on the ride to UW. Yoga helped a LITTLE, but since a lot of it consists of relaxation type things... not much. But, I think the whole relaxation thing helped reduce panic about the Calculus mid-term following Yoga directly... And, Calculus mid-term = GRRRREAT. It wasn't too hard, it wasn't too long, it wasn't too anything negative! (Now watch me get... 70 on it lol... I'm aiming for..95-ish... well, let's be "modest" and say 90. Honestly, I don't think I can get below 80... and I know I won't get above 100... so yes. twill be good. Unless I'm just delusional... but that's how I felt about the psych test last week and I got..94% on it).. Anyhoo yeah. Mid-terms=okay so far. I do fear algebra though. That one will likely be significantly tougher... That one I don't think I can hope for more than 80...but we shall see. Maybe if I prep myself for it well enough I'll be able to do well (by my terms, "well" is usually anything above 85-ish (if pretty difficult, then above 80)... being as I want to maintain an 83+ overall average over the course of my University career, so I can get into my graduate studies without much worries)... Oh God, I just read over that last little bit and it sounds so... icky. "over the course of my University career" -- what the hell kind of terminology is that? Jeez. Anyway, yeah... uhm. I don't know if I've decided firmly on my 5 courses for next term? Hmm... Well, actually, if I DO want to minor in philosophy, then I've gotta be pretty strict and take PSYCH 235, and 253, PHIL 202, CROAT 202 and GER 102. However, if not, then I can take something more interesting in place of german. Hmm... option A: get BA in Psych, minor in Phil and minor in SMF, having to take a total of 41 courses to meet all requirements, and therefore not only have a 100% fixed schedule, but rather have to take one extra course during a summer term, or option B: get BA in Psych, minor in SMF, take some Phil electives among others (ie, flexibility..no need for extra courses in summer term or in a 9th term)... hmm... hmmm... well, what a toughie. Yup, option B it is. Now, I'm going to bore everyone who might be for one reason or other reading this, and list some crap: 18 psych courses for psych Ba... 10 courses for SMF minor (-1 which coincides with one of the 18 for psych)...that's 27... +3 math-type courses from this term... that makes it 30... then there's the 2 language courses I need... that's 32... then there's phil 100J which I am taking... that's 33... now, let's see..which arts requirements have I accounted for... groub B will all be accounted for through 4 of my 18 psych courses... group a(ii) is the two lang. courses I mentioned... then phil 100J and phil 202 (which is counted for in SMF) meet group a(i)... and then I need two more courses... those will be either both phil, both english, or one of each... so, that makes 35 courses, with 5 to freely choose anything.... Now, let's check out the complete list of courses... minus the 18 I need for psych. 1.SMF 204 2.SMF 206 3.SMF 207 4.SMF 304 5.SMF 305 6.SMF 404/405 7.WS 101 8.PSYCH 235 9.PHIL 202 10.PHIL 100J 11.CROAT 202 12.GER 102 or CROAT 301 13.MATH 135 14.MATH 137 15.CS 133 16.a PHIL or ENGL course 17. see 16. Now, I'm guessing that then, for the remaining 5 courses, I'm likely to take them in PHIL and/or ENGL... MAYBE more of CROAT/GER depending how interesting I find them (likely not though)... and MAAAAAAYBE religious studies... but I'm more likely to take a religion-related course in phil. So, chances are, the remaining 5 will be in PHIL and/or ENGL.. So, that means.. there's already 2 definite phil courses (100J and 202)... plus 7 more PHIL and/or ENGL ones. Hmm.. if I were to say "no thanks" to the English then I might as well take one more phil and get a minor... that's all that I'd need - any 10 phil courses... it's just a question of if I can count a course like PHIL 202 for both a SMF minor and a PHIL minor... and a question of do I really want to exclude the englishes, or the possibility of relgious studies, or more languages, or more of ANYTHING else I might want to try instead? Hmmm... no. I mean, really, I don't need to have my degree saying "Bachelor of Psychology, with a minor in Sexuality, Marriage and the Family, and a minor in Philosophy"... I really don't care for having that sort of thing... I think I'll just see which courses I end up taking.. if I do in fact end up with 9 phil courses... I'll take one more for the minor... otherwise, who cares. Now, as for the actual SCHEDULE for next term... Well, I've planned out all my psych courses... so, this coming term it'll be PSYCH 253, PSYCH 235, PHIL 202, CROAT 202 and ___________. To be decided. Hmm... maybe I'll take an english course... or perhaps another PHIL... depending on what phil courses are offered... I think I've already determined that WS interferes with one of the other four, so none of that... but yeah. we shall see.
